The Redditch Pool Academy

The Studley and Redditch Invitation Pool League has been running a pool academy on Tuesday evenings at the Woodrow since 2008, which has helped local youngsters to learn the game of 8-ball pool and eventually go on to represent sides within the league and also at county level.

The Academy provides a means for youngsters between the ages of 8 – 15 to play pool in a controlled environment whilst at the same time learning the principals of the game under the tuition and guidance of a senior league official.

The Redditch Pool Academy boasts some real success stories:

  • Anthony Buttery has represented Worcestershire Youth for the past few seasons and 2011 saw him play magnificently to top the Region 3 rankings and net 7th place nationally. His efforts have secured him an England trial in 2012. Locally, he represented Bronx Bullets in the SRIPL Premier Division last year and finished in the top 5 of the Player of the Year rankings.

  • Elliot Guy finished top of the Worcestershire Youth team rankings in the 2010 Inter-County competition, and he went on to trial for the England Under-21 side in 2011. He has represented the Worcestershire Mens B side in 2011 also.

  • Joe Hant represents Worcestershire Youth, at local level he won Division One Player of the Year in the 2010/2011 season for Warriors and now plays with Premier Division Team Stoppit. James Hill is another player to represent Worcestershire at Youth level.

  • Young ladies such as Jess Pitt, Jade Yarranton and Louise Crathorne play within the Studley & Redditch League, and have all played in the Worcestershire Ladies side during 2011.

All youngsters between the ages of 8 and 15 are welcome to attend the Academy on Tuesday evenings at the Woodrow, between 7.30 and 9.00.

A message from the Chairman:

The Committee are so pleased that so many young people are taking part in the Academy. This is the future of our league and the more younger and older players that endeavour to learn the game can only mean that the league will become stronger in future years.
